On 21 July 2014 the Stellenbosch Rotaract had their re-induction of president Anja Verheijen as well as the new 2014 / 2015 Board and 6 new members. Rotary Club Stellenbosch President: Zelda Ellis and Secretary: Geraldine Nicol attended this joyous event. I am proud to say that our members in good standing has risen to 10 with 5 new potential members who are attending meetings and projects.
The Rotaract conference was held in Franschhoek the weekend of 25 – 27 July. Conference was a fun weekend of friendship and fellowship with speakers braving the cold to come and speak to us on various topics .. We were also very fortunate to have the founder of the “I wear red socks on Friday” campaign that joined us. Saturday afternoon was filled with a Tour de Franschhoek Amazing Race where all the teams came back sopping wet but we all still had fun. Saturday evening was the Gala Dinner ..
Speaker Dinner Evening held on > 22 July 2014
We had an absolute fabulous evening at the Kaitjiepiering Restaurant located in the US Botanical Gardens with great fellowship, good food and a most fascinating presentation by Mr Dick Hilland.
Dick is a specialist helicopter pilot involved in exploration and scientific missions in the South Pole Region.
One of his company’s main tasks is assisting the SA Cape Agulhas Vessel with the loading / offloading of cargo as well as the provision of emergency services. These duties are invariably executed under extremely difficult and tenuous circumstances and worst weather conditions imaginable. Dick’s slide
presentation contained some of the most unbelievable pictures and images one could ever hope tosee!
Thank you Dick!

MEDALLION TOUR DE STELLENBOSCH
CELEBRATING our 25TH ANNIVERSARY in 2014!!!!
This long established cycle race owned by the Rotary Club Stellenbosch has grown in stature over the past several years and is now rated as the third biggest cycle event in the Western Cape!
Participant numbers have grown in leaps bounds topping 3,500 riders in 2013!
This is the last big cycle race shortly before the Cape Argus and gives cyclists a wonderful opportunity to assess their overall readiness for the Cape’s Premiere Event!
The Medallion is also one of the most scenic races in the country threading through some of the most beautiful inspiring landscapes and combined with challenging stretches makes this an event not to be missed.
Due to logistical problems we were compelled to redesign the route for the 2014 event which is now taking us through several towns and villages in the Cape Winelands region.
